Certain Mucinex® products are an extended release bi-layer tablet. One side is the immediate release layer while the other side is the extended-release layer. The product in the blister packages only shows one side of the tablet.
Yes, this is normal and is caused by the guaifenesin (expectorant) in the tablets.
It is not advisable to use products stored outside of the recommended storage temperatures since pharmaceutical products have a specific storage temperature range. The temperature should be maintained to ensure the product’s ability to produce beneficial effects. Mucinex® is best used for treating symptoms when stored at the correct temperature. Please refer to the product labelling for storage temperature information.

No, the format does not make a difference in the efficacy of the medication. However as mentioned in #17, the bilayer tablet has an immediate and extended release layer, which could not be replicated in a liquid format. Additionally, the tablet format may be more convenient for a patient to take when they are out of the house.
Mucinex® caplets include 200 mg of guaifenesin while Mucinex® liquid products include 400 mg of guaifenesin.
For liquid Mucinex®, it’s recommended to take one dosing cup (20 mL) every 6 hours and to avoid taking more than 4 doses in any 24-hour period. For Mucinex® Multi-Action™ caplets, it’s recommended to take 2 caplets every 6 hours and to avoid taking more than 8 caplets in 24 hours. For Mucinex® Chest Congestion tablets, it’s recommended to take 1 tablet every 12 hours and to avoid exceeding 2 tablets in 24 hours. Always read and follow product label before use.
